Prof. Kim received BEng degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Seoul National University; MEngSci in Materials Engineering from Monash University; and PhD in Mechanical Engineering, University of Sydney. Kim’s research is centered on advanced materials, ranging from fiber composites to nanocomposites and to nanostructured materials for energy storage devices and multi-functional applications. Kim has written over 400 refereed papers and 15 books including three authored monographs in this area, which attracted over 35000 citations (with an h-index of 91 by Google Scholar). Kim was the President of the Asian-Australasian Association of Composites Materials (2008-09); and he and his team members are honored with many best paper awards from international conferences and competitions. He has been serving as the Editor of Composites Part A and the Associate Editor of Aerospace Science and Technology, in addition to editorial board members of 12 refereed journals such as Energy Storage Materials and Nanoscale Horizons.Prof. Kim is elected Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Science (HKAES), the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS). He was named the Highly Cited Researcher (2018) in Materials Science by Clarivate Analytics. He is currently Chair Professorand will become Professor Emeritus in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
