Lidia Chomicz-Manka, obtained her Ph.D. in 2015, at Faculty of Chemistry, University of Gdansk, Poland, and now she is a member of the Laboratory of Biological Sensitizers there. With the use of computational chemistry methods she is trying to understand the molecular mechanisms of action of radiosensitizers – the chemotherapeutics which may increase the efficiency of radiotherapy of radioresistant tumors. Understanding the way of action of the compounds known for their radiosensitizing properties (as 5-bromouridine or nimorazole) is the first step to propose new ones – potentially safer and more effective, which may enrich novel chemoradiotherapy treatment.
