Saverio Bettuzzi is full Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Parma and Board Member of INBB of Rome. He cloned and identified Clusterin (CLU) as the major over-expressed gene during castration-induced involution of rat prostate. With his research team, he focused on the biological role of CLU as a tumor suppressor for Prostate, Colon, Ovarian, Lung Cancers and Neuroblastoma, and discovered a gene signature for prognosis of prostate cancer (PCa). His work also comprised a deep study of Polyamine metabolism in normal and cancer cells. For long time he studied the anti-cancer activity of Green Tea Extracts (GTE) and EGCG, showing that progression of PCa can be blocked with GTE in mouse models and humans. He recently demonstrated that GTE can act as potent anti-inflammatory against COVID-19.
