As a scholar-practitioner, Baher Amouzgar is the founder and president of Plantek Productivity
Consulting Inc.; A knowledge enabling catalyst, specialized in engineering management, operational
efficiency and project management. In the academic world, Baher teaches graduate and undergraduate
courses in his area of expertise. He leads course at UBC, BCIT, Acsenda School of Management, and
University Canada West.
Baher holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial accounting, a master’s degree in industrial engineering and
is currently pursuing his PhD studies in Applied Management and Decision Sciences with Engineering
Management as his concentration (Expected to complete by March 2020). His research interest is in the use of
critical thinking for creative solving of complex problems in concrete business settings.
Baher is a senior member of the American Society for Quality, an ASQ certified Quality Engineer (CQE),
Six-sigma Black Belt (SSBB) as well as a Project Management Professional (PMP) in good standing. He is
also a member of the American Society of Engineering Management (ASEM) and a certified Professional
Engineering Manager (PEM).
Internationally, Baher’s experience spans North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. He
cherishes cultural diversity and as community service, Baher spearheaded founding the Society of
Internationally Trained Engineers of BC and led SITE BC for three years. When he is not working, Baher
enjoys hiking, skiing, and running.
Walid Abdul-Kader is a professor of Industrial Engineering in the faculty of engineering at the University of Windsor, Windsor, Canada. He holds a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from Université Laval, Québec City, Canada. He completed his bachelor’s degree from Université du Québec in Trois-Rivièrs, Canada, and master’s degree from École polytechnique de Montréal, Canada. His research interests relate to performance evaluation of reverse logistics and manufacturing/remanufacturing systems prone to accidental failure and repair. His publications have appeared in many leading national and international journals and conferences proceedings.
Bassim Abbassi joined the School of Engineering at the University of Guelph as a full time faculty member in 2015. Over the past years, Bassim has been working on developing technologies for on-site wastewater treatment. He cooperated closely with research institutions and industrial partners in Germany to test and calibrate several technologies that are available in the market. Among these are: sequencing batch reactor (SBR), constructed wetland, membrane bioreactor, extended aeration, and septic tank. Recently, Bassim has developed a simple on-site wastewater treatment plant called “Modified Septic Tank (MST)”. The four-chamber MST is combining aerobic treatment (one chamber with integrated settling tank) with anaerobe treatment (three chambers). Bassim has participated in several workshops and international conferences, where he presented his works related to decentralized wastewater management.
Kiarash Aminollahi received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal, Canada and is currently Lecturer/Part-Time Faculty Member in Concordia University in Montreal.
He has about 20 years of hands-on experience as Project manager in various industries particularly in Aerospace, leading engineering and product development projects.
Dr. Hadis Karimipour is an Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering at the University of Guelph. Her research mainly focuses on monitoring and security of critical infrastructure including large scale control systems and smart grids. The overall objective of her research is to investigate and overcome the challenges associated with the security, real-time monitoring and control of the large scale systems and smart grids using data analytic and machine learning techniques. She is the member of IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, and Cyber Science Lab - A community of cybesecurity researchers. She serves as the Chair of the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) and Chapter Chair of IEEE Information Theory in Kitchener-Waterloo section.
Dr Sami Ammar is engineer and senior lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal. Since 2013, he participates in teaching courses in engineering and contributes to the development pedagogical innovations. The links established with industry and institutions enable it to ensure the coherence of its teaching and design projects offered to students. His students recognize his leadership in education and his peers since five Award of Excellence were awarded to him for the exceptional quality of his teaching. Its achievements are disseminated through meetings he often participates as a chairman.

He is also CEO of a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) ERS Co. in Los Altos, CA, USA, is Foreign Full Member (Academician) of the National Academy of Engineering, Ukraine (he was born in that country); Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Society of Optical Engineers (SPIE), and the International Microelectronics and Packaging Society (IMAPS); Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), the Institute of Physics (IoP), UK, and the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE); and Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Ephraim has authored 400+ publications (patents, technical papers, book chapters, books), presented numerous keynote and invited talks worldwide, and received many professional awards, including 1996 Bell Laboratories Distinguished Member of Technical Staff (DMTS) Award (for developing effective methods for predicting the reliability of complex structures used in AT&T and Lucent Technologies products), and 2004 ASME Worcester Read Warner Medal (for outstanding contributions to the permanent literature of engineering and laying the foundation of a new discipline “Structural Analysis of Electronic Systems”). Ephraim is the third “Russian American”, after S. Timoshenko and I. Sikorsky, who received this prestigious award. This year he received the 2019 IEEE Electronic Packaging Society (EPS) Field award for seminal contributions to mechanical reliability engineering and modeling of electronic and photonic packages and systems.

Dr. Maatouk Khoukhi has received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Tohoku University (Japan) in 2004. Currently, he is an Associate Professor in Architectural Engineering Department at United Arab Emirates University. Dr. Maatouk held several permanent and visiting faculty appointments at Tohoku University (Japan), King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KSA), Sultan Qaboos University (Oman), Building Research Centre (CSTB, France), University of Sydney and New South Wales University. He is specialized in the broad area of Building Engineering Systems, Building Sciences, Solar Energy, and Environmental Sustainability. His research work has been supported by several grants from Samsung, NEDO, and universities’ internal and external grants. The total budget of his projects exceeds 3.5 Million USD. Dr. Maatouk has published more than 60 journal and conference papers and he is a reviewer for several journals in his field of specialization.
Dr. Pamela McCauley is an ergonomics and biomechanics expert, a popular keynote speaker, and a professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems at the University of Central Florida where she leads the Human Factors in Disaster Management Research Team and serves as Director of the Ergonomics Laboratory. She previously held the position of Martin Luther King, Jr. Visiting Associate Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is the author of over 80 technical papers, book chapters, conference proceedings and the internationally acclaimed ergonomics textbook, Ergonomics: Foundational Principles, Applications and Technologies. Many of her leadership, diversity, innovation and STEM education related talks draw from her research-based book Transforming Your STEM Career Through Leadership and Innovation: Inspiration and Strategies for Women as well as her personal story; Winners Don’t Quit . . . Today They Call Me Doctor.
Dr. McCauley has received numerous awards in recognition of her professional accomplishments including the prestigious 2015 Black Engineer of the Year Educational Leadership Award and a 2012 Fulbright Specialist Scholar award. Her research focus includes ergonomics of disaster management, development of artificial intelligence models using fuzzy set theory and, most recently, The Critical Global Ergonomics of Treating Ebola and Other Infectious Diseases.
Theodore Trafalis is professor in the School of Industrial Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. He earned his BS in Mathematics from the University of Athens, Greece, the MS, MSIE, and PhD in Operations Research from Purdue University. He was listed in the 1993/1994 edition of Who’s Who in the World and was a visiting Assistant Professor at Purdue University (1989-1990), an invited Research Fellow at Delft University of Technology, Netherlands (1996), a visiting Associate Professor at Blaise Pascal University, France and at the Technical University of Crete (1998). He was also an invited visiting Associate Professor at Akita Prefectural University, Japan (2001) and Senior Researcher at the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications, National Center for Scientific Research "Demokritos", Athens, Greece (2007). Professor Trafalis received the National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Initiation Award in 1991 and the Regents Award at the University of Oklahoma for his research activities in 2004. He is chief editor of Intelligent Control and Automation and participates on the editorial board of Technology and Investment, and Circuits and Systems, an associate editor of Computational Management and The Journal of Heuristics and have been on the Program Committee of several international conferences in the field of intelligent systems, data mining and optimization, on which his research interest is concentrated. He has been continuously funded through NSF and the NOAA, National Weather Service. He has published more than 150 articles in journals and conference proceedings, received several awards for his papers, 10 edited books/book chapters, and made over one hundred technical presentations.
Professor Fairouz Kamareddine works as a Professor of Theoretical Computer Science in Heriot-Watt University in Scotland. Fairouz Kamareddine has been involved in a number of worldwide consultancy assignments, especially on education and research issues working for United Nations and the EU. Her research interest includes Interface of Mathematics, Logic and Computer Science. She has held numerous invited positions at universities worldwide. She has well over 200 published articles and a number of books. She has played leading roles in the development, administration, and implementation of interdisciplinary, international, and academic collaborations and networks.

Dr. Dongfeng Xue is a professor of Materials Chemistry and Engineering, at
State Key Laboratory of Rare Earth Resource Utilization, Changchun Institute of
Applied Chemistry (CIAC), Chinese Academy of Sciences; Fellow of the
Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC); Corresponding Member of the European
Academy of Arts, Sciences and Humanities (Paris); Associate Editor of
CrystEngComm. He received his Ph.D. degree in inorganic chemistry at CIAC in
1998. Following postdoctoral studies at Universität Osnabrück, University of Ottawa,
National Institute for Materials Science in Tsukuba, he was promoted to a full
professor in 2001 at Dalian University of Technology, China. In 2011, he returned to
CIAC to assume his professorship in inorganic chemistry. His research interests focus
on multiscale crystallization of inorganic matter for energy and optical applications.

İhsan Sabuncuoğlu is a Turkish academic in industrial engineering. He is the current rector of Abdullah Gul University. He received his B.S. and M.S degrees from Middle East Technical University, in 1982 and 1984, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree from Wichita State University in 1989.
İhsan Sabuncuoğlu worked for Boeing, Pizza Hut and the National Institute of Health in the United States during his PhD studies. He joined Bilkent University in 1990. Between 1990 and 2013, he was a full time faculty member at Bilkent University Industrial Engineering Department where he became the chairman in 2006. He was the chairman of the first engineering department to be accredited by ABET in Turkey. In the meantime, he held visiting positions at Carnegie Mellon University in the United States, and at Institut Français de Mecanique Avancee (IFMA) in France.
As a person who highly gives importance to university-industry collaboration, he established university-industry collaboration center (USIM) in 2010. In addition to his appearance in the assessment committees of TUBITAK and KOSGEB, he gave consultancy services to major manufacturing and service companies for productivity improvement. He is on the Editorial Board of International Journal of Operations and Quantitative Management and Journal of Operations Management. He also acted as the conference chair in several industrial engineering conferences and workshops that were held in Turkey and worldwide.
