Biography

Prof. JN (Kobus) Eloff is the founder of the interdisciplinary Phytomedicine Programme, Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria. Previously Executive Director National Botanic Gardens and Research Director National Botanical Institute. Professor Universities Free State, Cape Town and Pretoria. Supervised 50 MSc and 52 PhD students completed. Editor several journals. Invited to review manuscripts 309 different scientific journals and join Editorial Board of 75 different scientific journals More than 220 (>96 invited/plenary/keynote) international presentations >330 peer evaluated scientific publications > 17 900 citations, h factor 62, 242 publications cited at least 10 times. Managed project leading to African Herbal Pharmacopoeia. Several patents registered and products licensed to Industrial Companies based on groups research. Leadership role several national and international professional societies. Member Italian Academy of Sciences, African Academy of Sciences. Awarded International Horticultural Society Bronze medal, SA Association Botanists Silver, Gold medal and honorary Life Membership, SA AkademievirWetenskapenKunsHavenga medal, Gold medal and MT Steyn Prize, National Science and Technology Forum Eskom Prize for capacity development, Academy for Science of South Africa (ASSAf) Gold medal. Profile included in book of ASSAf entitled Legends of South African Science. Received award Outstanding International Pharmacologist 2019 from Society for Ethnopharmacology branch in India.
