Wenping Cao (M’05-SM’11) received the B. Eng in electrical engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, China, in 1991, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical machines and drives from the University of Nottingham, Nottingham, U.K., in 2004. He is currently Chair Professor of Electrical Power Engineering at Aston University, Birmingham, U.K. Prof. Cao is presently the Chairman for the Industrial Electronics Society, IEEE UK and Ireland Section, and also a “Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award” holder, U.K. He was a semi-finalist at the “Annual MIT-CHIEF Business Plan Contest”, U.S.A., in 2015; the “Dragon’s Den Competition Award” winner from Queen’s University Belfast, U.K., in 2014, the “Innovator of the Year Award” winner from Newcastle University, U.K., in 2013. His research interests include fault analysis and condition monitoring of power electronics and electrical machinery.
